"Desert Rat"
As it sits now, "Desert Rat" is a 1978 Chevy K-10. Twisted up 350 motor/ 350 transmission, 203 t-case, 12 bolt rear/ Dana 44 front, 3.73 gears w/ lockers, 6" lift riding on 38" TSL Super Swamper Radials. Thanks to Karl Humphries for his building help and my wife for her patience.

The Story Behind My Truck..
Once upon a time there was this 1978 Chevy truck sitting on the side of the road. I stopped and saw that it was a truck that had potential in it. It was already lifted and was sitting on 2-35" Mud Kings and 2-36" Buckshots w/ 3.08 gears in it. Had a 350 that was wore out but the transmission and t-case were fine. I purchased the truck for 14 hundred dollars. A week after getting it home, I found 2 more Buckshots. I drove it around and luckily DIDN'T go muddin' in it, cuz lil did I know, there were NO front hubs in it! Found me some hubs through Karl, and now I was ready to 'wheel.
I enter my truck in a mudbog for the 1st time. The deephole side! My class was up to 36" tires. I went out there and pulled 4th, not bad for my 1st time. Few weeks later I enter again. This time, I WON! I beat out a few racing trucks too. Month goes by. I enter another one. This time I place 5th, but not too bad again.
Now it's time to modify this hog. I started w/ headers from Summit Racing. Something went wrong. My motor ran worse w/ headers than w/o. Thinking I needed mufflers to equal back pressure I take it to a shop. BAD IDEA! They won't do it. I need a catalytic converter. Ahah, I have friends. Turns out, that was least of my worries. My front end was leaning, BAD. Two broken ball-joints on driver's side. KAAAARL, help! The only thing holding my tire on was the fact my hub exploded and actually welded itself to the spindle! Time for new front end.
Got another Dana 44 w/ 373 gears and a locker for dirt cheap. Hmmm new problem. I still had 3.08's in the rear. New rear! Got another 12 bolt and I was good to go. Got the mufflers on and OH HELL! More bad news. My motor won't hold oil pressure. On my last run in the mudbog I must have swallowed a bunch of water and mud down the throat of it. It was fried. Karl could turn the flywheel w/ the spark plugs still in w/ JUST his hand! Thats bad.
New motor! Got a sweet deal on a 350 from a dirt track car. We thought it was stock, but after puttin it in and slappin my headers on it, we fired it and to our surprise, this motor is HEALTHY!
It's paintin time! After thinking of what I wanted to do to the white truck, I decided to camo it. But everyone had the "standard" camo on theirs. No one had desert camo though. So I bought some rattle can browns and khaki and w/ the help of my wife, TADA!, "Desert Rat" emerged. Thats the history of the truck, keep lookin for the future of it too.
